Privacy Policy

The short version

ReadIt has no account system. The books you import, your position in them, and your settings are stored in the app’s own storage on your device. We do not have a copy of them and cannot read them. Deleting the app deletes them.

Narration is produced by the speech voices already on your phone, so the text of your books never leaves your device. The only things that leave the phone are a subscription receipt, if you buy one, and anonymous crash and performance data. Both are described below.

What is stored on your device

• Books you import, and the public-domain books ReadIt ships with — the EPUB file, its cover, its chapters, and the text of the book.
• Reading progress. Which book and chapter you are on, per chapter, and how far into each one you had listened.
• Cast choices. Which installed voice is assigned to the narrator and to each character.
• Settings. Appearance, reading preferences, your daily goal, reading-reminder schedule, and listening-streak history.
• Listening totals. Minutes listened per day, kept on the device to show your streak and to apply the free plan’s daily and monthly limits. There is no usage server.

None of this is transmitted to us. It lives in the app’s private container, which other apps on your device cannot read.

Narration never leaves your device

ReadIt reads with Apple’s on-device text-to-speech — the same voices used by Spoken Content and VoiceOver. The book text is turned into audio entirely on your phone. Nothing about what you are reading is sent anywhere, and narration works with no network connection.

What leaves your device, and when

Purchases

If you subscribe to ReadIt Pro, the purchase is handled by Apple and validated through RevenueCat, which tells the app whether your subscription is active. We never see your payment card. RevenueCat receives an anonymous identifier and your App Store receipt; it does not receive anything about your books or your reading.

App performance

ReadIt reports anonymous performance and crash information — for example, how long the app took to launch, and stack traces for errors — through EAS Observe, so we can find and fix problems. These reports do not contain your book text or your reading history.

Permissions the app asks for

• Files. Used only at the moment you pick an EPUB to import. ReadIt reads the one file you choose and nothing else.
• Notifications. Optional. Used only for the daily reading reminder you can turn on in Settings.

ReadIt does not use the microphone or camera. The system framework it uses for audio playback and for file import declares those permission strings, but the app does not record audio or access your photos.

“Use my data to improve ReadIt”

Settings contains a switch called Use my data to improve ReadIt. When it is on, anonymised usage information may be used to improve the app. Turning it off stops that. It does not affect anything else in the app, and it never covers the contents of your books.

Children

ReadIt is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us at starlexian@gmail.com and we will delete it.

Your rights

Because ReadIt keeps your library and history on your device rather than on a server, you control it directly:

• See it. Everything the app holds about you is visible inside the app itself.
• Delete part of it. Remove a book from your library, or clear stored data from Settings.
• Delete all of it. Uninstalling ReadIt removes the entire library, progress, and settings from your device.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes in a way that affects what is collected, we will update the date at the top of this page and describe the change in the app’s release notes.
